The Amazons, as you might commonly know them related to DC Comics, Woman, were in fact a tribe of all female warriors in ancient Greek Mythology.
They lived in the outer limits of the known world, sometimes were mentioned living in the city of Themiskyra. But they often had to move around a lot because of them being fought off of land and other reasons. When they began to spread around they separated into three tribes, the Themiscyreians, Lycastians, and Chadesians. Why they separated into tree tribes, I don’t really know.
Amazons, sometimes depicted as the daughters of Ares and Harmonia or another nymph depending on the mythology one might be reading, were credited with the creation or founding of these following temples and cities: Smyrna, Sinope, Clete, Pygela, Paphos, Cyme, Latoreria, Amastris and many other places as well.
One super cool thing to learn about the Amazons was in their youth they cut or burnt their right breast burnt so that they may better wield a weapon such a the bow and arrow. The only thing is that in no work of art are they ever depicted with having a single breast. In paintings and in sculptures the Amazons always have both of their breasts.

While I was researching the Amazons the term “Man hating lesbians” came up quite often but that’s not entirely true. Sure they did hate men, very much so but that didn’t necessarily mean they were lesbians, but I am also not saying that they were necessarily straight. They visited a nearby all Male tribe called the Gargareans and mated, sometimes forcing, with them. They either killed the offspring if the baby was a woman or gave it to the men to raise so that they may continue to procreate in the future. Sometimes in some of the mythology, they married or were romantically involved with men. There really is no evidence of them being lesbians except for two things, one of which is they hated men and the second of which is a single love gift given by another female warrior to Queen Penthesilea.
The only way an Amazon was to die with honor, was for her to die in battle. Which really did work out for them most of the time. Since they were constantly at battle with men and they especially hated the Greeks and choose to fight them really at any chance they had.
